Vitamin E nutritional supplements may aid inflammation

Vitamin E can ease pain of inflammationTaking nutritional supplements containing vitamin E may help those who suffer from chronic inflammation, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of Illinois say that the vitamin’s antioxidant properties can reduce the pain of inflammation by decreasing the amount of certain proteins that tell the immune system to respond.

In addition, the scientists found that vitamin E could reduce the amount of oxidization in the body – a process that has been linked to a limit in muscle strength.

Professor Kimberly Huey, who led the research, suggested that the findings – published in the Journal of Experimental Physiology – could prove beneficial for older people or those suffering from type 2 diabetes or chronic heart failure.

“Vitamin E is a supplement that is already approved and these results may suggest an additional benefit of taking vitamin E beyond what’s already been shown,” she said.

Vitamin E may also be able to protect the body from free radicals, which may be why it is used as part of oral chelation.
