Writing in Parade magazine, dietician Joy Bauer says that there are a number of nutritional supplements that can help lift people’s moods by having a positive effect on brain chemistry.

Some research has found that supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids can help lift people out of a depressive mood, she explains.

Meanwhile, vitamin D is not called the sunshine vitamin for nothing. Scientists have linked a deficiency in vitamin D to an increased risk of suffering from seasonal affective disorder.

“Vitamin D is hard to come by in food form, so I usually recommend supplements,” Bauer states.

And she also suggests that folic acid could play a role in regulating mood, with lower levels of this B vitamin linked to depression.

Other health resources that may help lift the blues and increase energy include eating more fruits and vegetables, exercising more and aiming to sleep for at least eight hours per night.
