Grapes to benefit health?

According to the Arthritis Foundation, around 27 million Americans suffer from osteoarthritis and experience inflammation of the joints. While there are many creams that can ease this, new evidence shows that a good treatment may appear in the form of a naturally occurring substance.

The Journal of Nutrition’s September issue included information from the National Grape and Wine Initiative (NGWI) that reveals grapes and grape products may help improve cardiovascular health, fight cancer, relieve inflammation and benefit dental health.

Grapes have specific chemical compounds that add to their beneficial effect, explains Dean Dr John Pezzuto at the University of Hawaii, in Hilo. ” In considering grapes and health, a broader view – that takes into account all of the grape’s chemical components including their metabolism, biological potential, biodistribution, absorption and processing,” is necessary to understand how they can help humans, he says.

Those interested in following a healthy diet should consider taking nutritional supplements but also incorporating grapes in the alkaline diet. Followers of this eating plan focus on fruits, vegetables, legumes and tubers and it may help promote bone health.
