Family History of Coronary Artery Disease is a Strong Indicator for Clogged Artery Risk

Family history could be an indicator for clogged arteriesIndividuals who come from families with a history of coronary artery disease may want to consider taking such as vitamin E and zinc, as a new study suggests that family history could be the number one indicator for a risk of clogged arteries.

According to scientists from the Henry Ford Hospital, patients with a family history of coronary artery disease are at a higher risk of developing clogged arteries in their lifetime, which can sometimes be fatal.

The researchers found that patients who underwent a cardiac computed tomography angiography and had a family history of coronary artery disease were 28 percent more likely to develop plaque on their arteries compared to patients with no family history.

“This is the first study to show that family history of premature coronary artery disease is a significant predictor of obstructive coronary artery disease using coronary computed tomography,” said the study’s lead author, Dr. Mouaz Al-Mallah. “We believe cardiac computed tomography angiography would likely identify a high risk group of patients with advanced plaque buildup.”ADNFCR-1960-ID-19687857-ADNFCR
