Eat dried plums for digestive health

Prunes aid digestion and contain antioxidantsThe digestive health benefits of dried plums, also known as prunes, are being brought into the spotlight next month in California.

Dried plums have long been valued for their ability to support a healthy digestive system due to their high fiber content.

However, the fruits are also good for bone health, as they contain potassium, vitamin K and boron, the California Dried Plum Board suggests.

With all of these health benefits in mind, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared January 2009 as California Dried Plum Digestive Health Month.

“Dried plums are a great source of vital nutrients and contribute to a healthy digestive system,” Schwarzenegger said, commenting on the announcement.

People who are searching for natural health resources that may help protect them from deadly diseases such as heart disease and cancer may be interested to read that prunes contain antioxidants known as polyphenols.

Studies have suggested that these antioxidants can help prevent free radicals from damaging the body’s cells.

In addition, dried plums’ high vitamin A content can also be seen to strengthen the body’s defense against serious disease.
