Chlorella ‘can help balance pH and control acidity’

Chlorella could be an ingredient in nutritional supplementsA very small green algae known as chlorella may be effective at controlling excess acidity in the body and maintaining pH balance, according to reports.

An article in Natural News claims that this plant is an alkaline food that successfully counteracts acidity – a condition that may arise in the body as a result of consuming too many processed foods, meat and uncultured dairy products.

Chlorella is a single-celled alga that grows in the water and is made up of more than 50 percent digestible protein and carbohydrates, the news provider states.

It suggests that nutritional supplements containing the algae could contribute to proper pH balance, which in turn protects bone mass, as the body’s minerals are not being used to balance acid and alkaline levels.

In addition to being part of an alkaline diet, chlorella has also been prescribed for a range of conditions, according to the American Heart Association. These include lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as boosting the immune system and promoting a healthy digestive tract.
