Springtime is here. For those who do not live in the U.S., and who consider March 1 when spring has sprung, it was already here, the Straight Dope reports. With springtime comes allergy season. News outlets are recommending that people with seasonal allergies prepare ahead of time.
Even though it may still be cold at night throughout the country, many plants are already beginning to release pollen, according to 9 News Denver.
Taking antihistamines may help reduce the symptoms of air allergies, like runny nose and sneezing, but a health expert told the news source that individuals must start such a regimen before spring begins in order to reap its full benefits.
Individuals may also consider taking a daily vitamin supplement to help keep their immune system healthy this spring. A study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology recently noted that vitamin D deficiency may contribute to the severity of allergies.
Adults need at least 600 international units of vitamin D each day, according to the National Institutes of Health.
