Those who start their morning off with a caffeine jolt may also be protecting themselves against type 2 diabetes.
According to a study found in the Archives of Internal Medicine, drinking coffee or tea may help lower the risk of developing diabetes.
Scientists are hopeful that these will help calm the national epidemic. Its been reported that by 2025, approximately 380 million individuals around the world will be affected by the disease.
The researchers point out that there is still little evidence to prove a relationship between diabetes and dietary choices. However, obesity and lack of exercise have proven to be linked to diabetes.
Combining six studies on coffee research and seven studies of tea consumption, the researchers wanted to get the big picture in terms of results.
It was found that each additional cup of coffee a day was linked to a 7 percent lower risk of developing diabetes. For tea, subjects who drank three to four cups a day had a 25 percent lower risk than those who drank two cups or less daily.
