Report: Consuming Blueberries May Improve Memory Loss

Report: Consuming blueberries may improve memory lossIn addition to being a good source of antioxidants, blueberries have also been found to help improve memory, according to findings in the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

A team of researchers led by Robert Krikorian, lead author of the report, conducted a study in which they enrolled participants who were in their 70’s and showed early signs of memory loss. The volunteers were given daily servings of blueberry juice over the course of two months. A control group was also used and given a juice, however, it didn’t contain blueberry juice.

The team found that the group who consumed blueberry juice recorded better results when they took learning and memory tests. The reports states that this is the first discovery of experiments involving humans that proves consuming blueberries can help improve signs of memory loss.

“These preliminary memory findings are encouraging and suggest that consistent supplementation with blueberries may offer an approach to forestall or mitigrate neurodegeneration,” the article reports.
