The benefits of moderate red wine consumption have been studied and touted for years. Its been proven to improve cardiovascular health, fight cancer, Alzheimers and Parkinsons, and slow the aging process.
Now, a group of European scientists have developed a red wine powder to be used in everything from food and drink to skin products and make-up.
They came up with a new method of turning the by-products of the wine-making process into a powder that preserves as many of the natural, healthy properties such as the proteins, B vitamins, minerals and polyphenols as possible.
Then, they tested the powder in different foods and drinks. “In some products the powder is too acidic and it wasnt nice. In others, the fruity taste of the grapes in combination with the acidic effect is refreshing,” says ProVinos project leader Gabriele Randel.
Among the favorite uses of the powder so far are yogurt and other dairy products, cakes, chocolates, and skin creams and cosmetics which exploit the wines anti-wrinkle effects.
They believe the product is something that would be attractive to health-conscious consumers, as an additional health resource to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
