Leg pain could indicate more serious condition

Leg pain could point to a serious problemIf you find yourself experiencing unexplained leg pain, don’t just chalk it up to old age – it may be worth examining the problem further.

That is the advice of Dr. Thomas Livingston of Baylor All Saints Medical Center. He warns that between 8 million and 12 million Americans suffer from a circulation condition known as peripheral vascular disease.

PVD is caused when plaque within the arterial walls accumulates and causes the blood vessels which carry blood to the legs to narrow.

People who suffer from this condition may notice symptoms such as pain, numbness, aching legs or a feeling of heaviness when climbing stairs.

Certain people are more at risk for PVD. “Factors that can cause plaque buildup include smoking, high amounts of certain fats in the blood, high blood pressure and high amounts of sugar in the blood due to diabetes,” Livingston explained.

He recommended that people who suffer from PVD should make lifestyle changes to treat their condition.

Some people have found nutritional supplements containing nattokinase to be beneficial for their circulation problems.
