Individuals who are concerned about their risk for heart disease and diabetes may want to incorporate grapes into their diet, as a new study is suggesting the fruit can help combat these potentially life threatening conditions.
According to researchers from the University of Michigan Health System, after testing the effects of grapes on laboratory rats, the scientists found that they experienced lower blood pressure levels and reduced indicators of heart inflammation.
The scientists split the rats into two groups and either gave the subjects a grape-enriched diet or no grapes. It was found that the group of rats who had the fruit incorporated into their diet had lower blood pressure and less inflammation when compared to the rats who had no change to their diet.
“The possible reasoning behind the lessening of metabolic syndrome is that the phytochemicals were active in protecting the heart cells from the damaging effects of metabolic syndrome,” said Steven Bolling, M.D. “In the rats, inflammation of the heart and heart function was maintained far better.”
In addition to incorporating grapes into ones diet, diabetes natural supplements can also serve as alternative treatment to the condition.
