Get out and about to reduce joint pain

Joint pain can be eased by walkingPeople who are looking for health resources to ease joint pain related to osteoarthritis may want to consider taking regular walks, experts have suggested.

As the colder months of the year approach, the Arthritis Foundation is reminding arthritis sufferers not to neglect their regular physical activity habits due to weather.

The foundation recommends that taking regular walks is one drug-free and inexpensive way to manage the pain connected with the condition.

“Walking just 10 minutes, three times a day can ease joint pain, improve mobility and reduce fatigue often associated with arthritis,” commented Dr. Patience White of the Arthritis Foundation.

Additionally, walking can help arthritis sufferers lose extra weight – which, in turn, can further improve their symptoms.

White says that by losing around 15 pounds, someone with osteoarthritis can reduce their pain by as much as 50 percent.

Some arthritis sufferers have also found that taking herbal supplements containing glucosamine or chondroitin have helped ease their symptoms. Research has also shown these ingredients to be effective in some patients.
