Apples may seem like a simple food, but their health benefits can pack a mighty punch.
An article in the Chicago Daily Herald draws attention to the power of apples to help keep cholesterol levels in check, as well as helping to prevent metabolic syndrome and related cardiovascular problems.
Nutritionist Victor Fulgoni told the news provider that consuming apples, applesauce and apple juice can cut risk factors for metabolic syndrome by as much as 27 percent.
The results of the study demonstrate that as health resources, a little apple can go a long way.
“In the study, the average apple product consumption was between 210 and 215 grams, which is about one medium-sized apple,” he said.
Fulgoni explained that a mixture of fiber and phytochemcials may be the secret to apples powerful effect.
They contain pectin, which has been shown to reduce the bodys cholesterol level, as well as cancer-fighting antioxidants.
Raw apple cider vinegar which has not been processed or distilled can be consumed to help control glucose levels and as an herbal remedy for heartburn, among other uses.
