Some people who are fed up with taking over-the-counter or prescription medications for their allergies are finding relief through acupuncture.
Alternative therapies may appeal to people who do not want to suffer the side effects that some commonly prescribed pills can cause, KFYR-TV reports.
For example, Lisa and Lori sisters who did not want to provide their last name explained how they got tired of conventional treatments for their many allergies.
“You eventually get to the point where they say take this pill, this pill [and] this pill and they have side effects for every single one,” Lisa told the news provider.
Since they started getting acupuncture, they say each of their allergies have been slowly disappearing over time.
Acupuncturist Fay Johnson explained that approximately 70 percent of people who visit her are seeking to get rid of their allergies.
She said her approach is always the same, regardless of what the patient is allergic to. She places needles in eight different meridians on the body.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that has gained popularity in the U.S. over the past few decades.
