In various European and Asian countries, magnetic therapy has long been used to help heal broken bones and soft-tissue injuries. Some U.S. doctors have begun to pioneer its use in their practices.
Studies show regular use of magnets can help ease arthritis pain prevent heart disease slow tumor growth and even boost mental function in some Alzheimers patients.
How does it work? According to Ron Lawrence, M.D., president of the North American Academy of Magnetic Therapy, magnets placed on skin work by:
- Increasing blood flowthe magnet helps stimulate cell activity, which causes heating in the magnetized area.
- Diminishing painthe increased blood flow and warmth from the magnet help reduce pain in the affected area.
- Speeding the healing processmagnets help boost your bodys production of the cell fuel known as adenosine triphosphate (ATP); this, in turn, enhances your bloods ability to carry oxygen.
For best results you should place the magnets as close to your body as possible. This is because the magnets strength diminishes with distance.
And dont worry about not having access to these mini pain relievers. Magnetic devices are now available in pillows, mattress pads, seat cushions and small hand-held objects!
