Many women turn to the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to ease their symptoms of menopause including night sweats, fatigue, hot flashes and uncontrollable weight gain. Now research shows you can benefit from dumping the risky synthetic HRT and turning to all-natural solutions!
In 2002, the Womens Health Initiative revealed that post- and premenopausal women were at greater risk for heart attacks if they were using synthetic HRT. This therapy has also been linked to an increased risk of cancer, stroke, blood clots, fragile bones and dementia. This led to a sharp decline in HRT to help treat the symptoms of menopause.
Due to this decline, the number of women suffering from heart attacks has also dropped, according to the journal Medical Care. The study indicates that discontinued HRT resulted in 25 fewer heart attacks per 10,000 people a year.
Other safe and natural alternatives to help ease the symptoms of menopause include:
- Consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables
- Using compounded natural hormone creams
- Increasing your intake of calcium and vitamin D
- Exercising at least 30 minutes a day, three times a week
- Decrease your alcohol intake
